AND, UH, WE WILL, UH, READ THIS OFF HERE WHERE GEOGRAPHY HAS PLAYED A DEFINING ROLE IN THE SETTLEMENT HISTORY AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE CITY OF CEDAR HILL.

AND THERE IS A NEED TO CONTINUE TO MAINTAIN GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION AND ARCHIVE HISTORICAL RECORDS.

AND WHEREAS THE CITY OF CEDAR HILL RECOGNIZES THAT AN UNDERSTANDING OF GEOSPATIAL TECHNOLOGY IS CRUCIAL TO OPERATING OUR INFRASTRUCTURE, SUSTAINING NATURAL RESOURCES AND STIMULATING ECONOMIC GROWTH IN THE CITY OF CEDAR HILL IS COMMITTED TO UTILIZING GIS TO INFORM DECISION MAKING AND BETTER SERVE ITS RESIDENTS AND MAKE USEFUL GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION OPEN AND EASILY AVAILABLE TO THE PUBLIC AND AS A PLATFORM FOR INNOVATION.

AND WHEREAS TECHNOLOGY PLAYS A VITAL ROLE IN THE CONTINUED GROWTH OF THE CITY OF CEDAR HILL AND THE USE MANAGEMENT AND EXCHANGE OF GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION AS NECESSARY FOR EFFECTIVE DECISION MAKING BY LOCAL, STATE, AND FEDERAL GOVERNMENT AGENCIES.

AND WHEREAS GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY ALLOWS US TO SEE AND MODEL COMPLEX RELATIONSHIPS AND PATTERNS TO MORE INTELLIGENTLY RESPOND.

AND WHEREAS THERE IS A NEED TO PROMOTE GIS AWARENESS, EDUCATION, AND TECHNICAL TRAINING TO USE THIS RAPIDLY DEVELOPING TECHNOLOGY TO ITS FULL POTENTIAL.

AND WHEREAS HAVING A DAY OF GIS ACTIVITIES TO OPEN OPEN TO STUDENTS, CITIZENS, AND GOVERNMENT LEADERS WILL HELP PROMOTE STEM EDUCATION AND ACTIVITIES.

NOW, THEREFORE, I STEVEN MASON, MAYOR OF THE CITY OF CEDAR HILL, TEXAS DO HEREBY PROCLAIM WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15TH AS GIS DAY IN THE CITY OF CEDAR HILL.

AND THEN IT GOES BACK DOWN AND POPS UP AGAIN.
